With a raging passion for the kitchen he is at once approachable, knowledgeable and humble. A great conversationalist with a fine sense of humour that guests appreciate, heres a chef whose heart beats for the kitchen!!
The Cycling Champ from Ajmer:
Born and raised in an army family in Ajmer, Girish aspired to a life long career as a professional basketball player. He was, in fact, not only a district level basketball player but also a state level cyclist until a bad knee injury ended his career. The adventurous sportsman streak though has lived… his biggest love after of course the kitchen is his bullet. He says he gets an adrenaline rush while riding his bike to little known places discovering the traditions and cuisines of our colourful country.
Let’s Try Cooking:
Even while he was well poised for a sporting career, Girish’s attention slowly turned towards cooking by a stroke of chance. As a child, Girish would go into the kitchen and stir up his own food, since his parents were both working and he got ample time in the kitchen to himself. The passion for the kitchen became stronger though during a summer internship he had in one of his dad’s friend’s hotel. Girish who went to help in front office felt a strange magnetic pull every time he went to the kitchen of that hotel.
It was here that nature conspired and metamorphosed the young sportsman into a passionate chef. Graduating from IHM Jaipur in 1994, Girish started out as a Commis with Rajputana Palace Sheraton and later moved to Oberoi hotels as a kitchen associate and went on to become Executive Chef with Marriott hotels. With 17 years of experience behind him in some of the most eminent kitchens across the country and abroad, Chef’s style is keeping the food simple and fresh. He believes in retaining the authenticity of the original recipe and is not a great fan of fusion. A man of diverse cooking abilities, he basks in Indian cuisine.
A Star in the Making:
Opening kitchen operations in hotels is something that Chef Girish has mastered. Right from his first job, he has always worked in pre opening hotels. He is today an authority in preopening and Marriott many a times sends him on task force to set up the kitchen as per expected standards.
Chef Girish has provided his services as Personal Chef to various heads of the state like President of US – Mr. Clinton, President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Norway, Princess of Morocco, our very own Prime Minister – Dr. Manmohan Singh apart from many bolloywood luminaries including Amitabh Bachan. But his big dream is to cook for the Little Master!
Innovation is another thing that he is known for. Big or small at every given instance he strives for innovation and excellence, recognizing this spark in Chef Girish FHRAI awarded him with the Executive Chef of the Year award in 2008.

When Girish is with his team, we can see the sportsman in him alive and thriving. He is a great leader who provides insightful leadership by being a friend, guide and inspiration to his team. Having been featured in, In Pursuit of Passion, a book that featured 50 youth icons of change, Chef Girish included, Chef is never the one to allow success to take over. At once humble, approachable and sensitive chef has a keen eye for talent and when he does spot the right one, he mentors them and nurtures their talent to give them the edge in their career.

This humble almost demure man was the toast of the judges on his maiden television show Foodistan.
